Fishing on the Owens has been great to fair for the past few weeks. We have had some very cold weather mixed with a few warm spells. The water temps are anywhere from 38-44 depending on where you are fishing and of course how the outside temp is.
Fishing is best during the warmest time of the day. I was down there last week guiding client and friend David Higginson during a cold freeze, the air temp was 36 and the water temp was 38! Nuff said! The guides were freezing up on every drift and we had to get out and warm up the feet a few times but still managed to stick quit a few fish, but in a small window of time. Fish midges and mayfly patterns, look for slower water and really concentrate on those perfect presentation drifts!
