May 7-whats up flyfishers, Terry here with the latest ESGA report; fished all day yesterday with Tony Angelloti on the east walker, flows are still at 590 c.f.s. Tony managed to hook several quality browns and rainbows during some thick baetis activity , the best fishing for us occured from about 10 to 3. The miracle mile at these flows is basically one giant riffle, once these fish are hooked they make a run for Nevada and its pretty much impossible to turn them or even slow them down. The crowds were pretty light and the weather was great, if you plan to go, bring a wading staff and a friend, your best chance at netting these strong fish is chasing them downstream with a partner, wading and netting as a team. Be very careful if you decide to wade after a fish, at these flows there are plenty of spots that are deeper than your chest high waders! Today Tony and I fished Crowley Lake, it was a blast hooking some reel screamers with a huge backdrop of snow covered peaks! Sorry no eye candy as I am currently shopping for a new camara. We fished around Sandy Point and got into a bunch of hard fighting leaping bows from 14 -18 inches. Flies of choice were midges in sizes 16 and 18, black with red (tiger), grey with black, and olive with grey. I got 1 fish stripping a seal bugger on a type 4 sink line, I only gave it about 10 min. as the midge hatch was coming off pretty thick. I did see several other guys hooking fish while stripping but the nymphers where out catching the strippers. Thanks for checking us out, look for new posts and pics daily.
